The Roar of the Bikes and the Singing of Hymns! Huh???
The roar of nearly a hundred choppers shook the Upper Valley on Sunday October 17, 2004. Hundreds of bikers and non-bikers made their way to the Calvary Chapel for a day of feasting, praising Jesus and listening to Christian Rock n'Roll. The event is "La Junta"; and annual meeting of the area bikers to share in fellowship and Christian teachings. This most recent gathering was the 5th annual meeting.
The Calvary Chapel is the new member of the Upper Valley ecclesiastic community. Taking up roots in the shell of the old Borderland Farmers Co-Op and Gin; the chapel and Paster Terry Grey have brought music to the old site replacing the sound of the cotton gin and tractors. Many of the activities took place in the temporary tent set up on the East side of the Gin for services.
Once the sound of choppers settled down; the sound of praying and singing
took over. Behind the row of bikers of all makes and models and next to the tent there was a big barbeque area set up to feed the masses. There were childrens areas and there were many ministers and pastors of different groups and congregations.
Many of the people were enjoying the music by several of the bands playing that day. The "Narrow Path" played a blues rock set that was very melodic as well as meaningful.
