Washington Embarrasses Nation

We have expressed our confusion at the Bush Administration for some time. Apparently the plan, if you dare call it one, is to do everything at once and just print money if you need it. Our concerns are numerous.

The educational system in this country is a disgrace. The health care industry and lack of healthy Americans, many without health insurance is also a disaster in the making.

But what seems to be the most egregious of errors is the continuetion of the tax relief for the wealthy while invading two nations in the Middle East, Afganistan and Iraq and doing nothing about real security at home, either along the border on when disaster strikes.

No wonder the levee system in New Orleans was $250 million short of funding in the last few years. It was common knowledge to the Bush Administration that New Orleans would suffer catastrophic damage even if there was just a flooding from Lake Ponchatran. There is no way to protect New Orleans from a breech. Nor is there the capability to pump the water out if a levee breaks at a rate to save the city. And they knew this.

The Bush Administration also knew from computer models that a strong hurricane might flood New Orleans from the Gulf side. This time New Orleans dodged a bullet as it did last year. But it couldn't dodge a boomerang.

The rain and storm surge that missed a direct hit New Orleans flooded the Lake and that destroyed the levees. The rest is history. A history that will live on in infamy.

In retrospect, how did the Bush Administration expect Homeland Security and FEMA to do anything better than the botch job that they have done with the three destroyed states?

If the Bush Administration had been more interested about the weather then perhaps someone with managerial experience would have been selected to run the Department of Homeland Security rather than Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff who was an attorney.

Furthermore, the head of FEMA is Michael D. Brown a former attorney for the Lyons, Colorado based International Arabian Horse Association. Not only that but he was fired from the Association before joining FEMA.

Some say now is not the time to point fingers, that we need to focus on the rescue. But that makes as much sense as telling a rape victim to not tell who her attacker was so that he can violate again. Better to let Bush Administration damage the integrity of our nation that "point the finger".

Well the finger points directly at Cheney, Rumsfeld and I guess Bush if he even knows what is going on. It is time for the far-right Americans to stop "Standing by their Man", Bush, just as it is time for the families of an alcoholic to end their denial and to stop standing and supporting the behavior that is destroying their family.

Will America wake up in time?
