War Eagles Air Museum Hosts Stamp Unveiling.
Doņa Ana County Airport,
Santa Teresa, New Mexico--
On August 27, 2005, War Eagles Air Museum will host a ceremony unveiling the United States Postal Service's "American Advances in Aviation" commemorative postage stamp series.
The ceremony will begin at 9:00AM when parachutists will land at the Museum carrying National, State and Post Office flags. El Paso Mayor John Cook and Las Cruces Mayor William Mattiace will be special guests. Keynote speaker Pat Abeln, Director of Aviation for the El Paso International Airport, will talk about the little-known history of the airport and its effect on aviation in the Southwest border region.
Postmaster Felix Guerra will unveil the commemorative stamp series. Among the 10 aircraft featured on the stamps are the Boeing 247 commercial airliner, the Consolidated B 24 and Boeing B 29 World War II bombers, the radical Northrop YB 49 "Flying Wing" (forerunner of today's B-2 Spirit "Stealth Bomber"), and the Beechcraft Bonanza, several of which will be on display.
The commemorative postage stamps will be available for purchase. Admission to the ceremony is free. Call War Eagles Air Museum at (505) 589-2000 for more information.
