Opinion: Buying Elections is a Terroristic Act.

How did we become so lazy and complacent a nation, that we allow a few people to steal our democracy? How did we allow our children to follow our example of not caring about our country?

The only thing that keeps our country as a viable force in this mixed up world is democracy. Democracy is fueled by the act of voting. Voting needs to be done by most of our citizens and it must be done with full knowledge of the issues and candidates.

Unfortunately, the elections in our city and indeed, the nation have been stolen by a few people who buy votes with huge financial contributions.

Now, it is not just these few that are culpable. It is the rest of us who allow them to do so. We allow legislators to create laws that allow elections to be bought. We allow ourselves to be manipulated by 30 second spots on radio and TV. We allow ourselves to become bored and complacent and take on a “It doesn’t matter” attitude.

All this allows those with resources to buy our democracy right in front of our eyes. This has been known for years. But, we never stop to think what are the ramifications of this. It boils down to stealing the very heart of our country.

And that is worse than what happened on September 11, 2001.

911 brought us all together. Stealing our elections only divide us further.

And there is nothing patriotic about that.
