With so much riding on their leadership, school board members should be the most qualified persons available.

The recent recall election brought about by dissatisfied parents enabled the community to remove four of the Gadsten Independent School District Board Members. This clearly shows that these members were not perceived to be working in the best interest of the community and clearly points to the need to pick better qualified trustees.

Clearly, as with all elections, those with an agenda or an ego to feed will come forward and seek election to the school board. And, as with politics in general, we need persons who are really seeking the public good to come forward and run for trustee.

The Canutillo Independent School District Board recently selected an in house employee for the post of Superintendent without ever selecting any other finalists.

The El Paso Independent School District Board has placed Robert Ortega, with clear deficiencies in managerial skills, as Interim Superintendent.

Given the amount of taxpayers dollars and the future of our civilization being at stake, voters need to be much more informed about who these persons running for office truly are and what they can offer.

If men and women are dying for our democracy right now... don’t we at least own them an informed vote to seat a qualified school board?
