HyperBorder: Forum on Border Development and Synchrony.
With a great deal of fanfare; the HyperBorder forum provided an atmosphere of exploration. As the latest effort in the ongoing process of integrating North America; HyperBorder brought stakeholders together in both El Paso, Texas and also in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua.
NAFTA (North American Free Trade Association) is now over 10 years in the works and in spite of all of the problems it has brought to the forefront, it is only a beginning in process of providing a seamless border.
“NAFTA was nothing more than a letter of intent” states Mexican Senator Jeffry Jones, (Chihuahua). There is so much more progress to be made.
Several dignitaries were on hand for the opening statements. The Honorable Mayors John Cook, El Paso; Ing. Héctor Murguía Lardizábal, Cd. Juarez; Jesús Rubén Segura, Sunland Park; and Congressman Sylvestre Reyes.
All of them agreed on the need to promote a more symbiotic border and to view the interdependence between the US and Mexico as the reality of the future.
They agreed so much that they all seemed to say to the audience that the speech given by the previous dignitary was what they were going to say. As a result, Rep. Reyes spoke about the great weather in the area and indicated that it is one of our assets.
Aspects that were discussed were the intricacies of a seamless border. One that is likely to occur more rapidly and that is a broadband connection linking all of the communities and students along the border.
Transportation issues and border crossing protocol all need to be upgraded to increase the productivity of import/export and to reduce pollution and adversely affected populaces along the border. Energy and natural resource issues are also aspects of a intregrated border.
