Opinion.
Global Climate Change is a relevant issue regardless of whether it is caused only by plants and the Sun or is accelerated by human activity and policy. That fact can not be denied.
It is relevant because of the tremendous impact it might have on our region or hundreds of other regions on this small planet.
Recent heat waves that struck California inland valleys costing the life of a 17-year old mother-to-be of heat exhaustion due to lack of hydration in the field, is just one example that extremes in temperature may pop up at any time. And if they happen more often we will all be affected.
It is unfortunate that the hyperbole and spin about climate change has muddied the water to the point that it is difficult to know with any sense of certainty where we are as far as surviving any climatic catastrophy.
Questions that need to be answered are the following:
What is the state of the global climate right now?
What is the definitive... or best model/theory as to how human impact climate?
What impact has civiliation made in the last three hundred years?
What can we do to steer away from a global climate crisis?
When do we need to start efforts to avoid a crisis?
Without a clear answer to each of these questions we will continue to be manipulated by special interest groups that are trying to discredit the work of many scientists and concerned policy makers.
For example, we found some web sites that proclaimed that carbon dioxide is not a factor in the global climate equation. We also found that some of these same web sites are funded by big farming, big oil or big business interests.
Our children and their children are counting on us and we either take on these tough issue of we let them deal with something that may not be so readily adjusted in thirty years.
Our children are worth the tough answers.
