Canutillo HS Senior Accepted To Early Medical School Program

Alfonso Frias, Canutillo High School senior, has been accepted to the Early Medical School Acceptance Program with the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston.

This is a significant step toward achieving his goal of attending medical school and becoming a physician, stated Dr. Donna Ekal, UTMB program coordinator.

Frias will begin undergraduate work this fall at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he plans to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Upon graduation from UTEP, Frias will attend UTMB at Galveston for three years.

“I have always wanted to be a doctor, and going through the health science technology program at Canutillo High School spurred my interest even more,” Frias said, “I’m hoping that by participating in this program, it will help me determine the type of doctor I want to become.”

To be accepted into the early medical school program, Frias had to demonstrate outstanding achievement in academics and undergo a personal interview with UTMB officials.
