Hawks Still Soar Above the Valley.
Usually you see them high in the air soaring above the valley or in the Franklin Mountains high in the deep blue sky. Raptors or those flying creatures that include falcons, hawks and eagles are back in the area as they move south for the winter. The Sparrow Hawk is actually a member of the falcon family.
On rare occasions you will see a large hawk as pictured here a bit closer. Perhaps down the street on a street light pole. In the desert you will see them perched on power line poles. But, rarely will one let you get this close.
This magnificent hawk was relaxing just before sunset on a cold late November
afternoon. The orange glow of the sun makes the offwhite feathers seem tan.
