Billy Crews' TV Shows Great Longhorn Comeback.

For Texas Longhorn fans this years of fab freshmen are a welcomed surprise. Texas lost most of its team last year to the NBA or graduation.

Coach Rick Barnes however, pulled a fast one. He recruited two high shcool All-Americans. Kevin Durant and D. J. Augustin came to Texas and made a splash early and then lost some tough games against eastcoast teams... like Villanova.

But, Barnes realized that this team needed to get beat up in order to temper their will. Texas lost a few more games than Kansas or Texas A & M but beat A & M at the end of the season in double OT and lost to Kansas by a couple of points in OT.

Well, this hot team was lead by Durant who was up on the charts with top rankings in scoring and one of few players ... freshman or not... to score and to rebound of all players in the nation.

The Big 12 Conference Championship Tournament was underway and it was not on ESPN but ESPNU. So we went to Chile's and they didn't have it. Went to the Texas Roadhouse... Nope. While there a man from Alamogordo said that Texas was down nearly 20 points at half-time. We were astonished. They were playing Baylor, and while they had just won a late season game from the Bears by 1 point... we figured that they would really knock out Baylor in the tournament.

Apparently, the Bears thought that they should have won and now were going to get revenge.

Well, we needed to get to a TV as soon as possible to see the Texas "comeback"... which we were sure would happen.

We went to Hudson's... and that place was closed and out of business.

We went to La Cantina... Nope. The Other Bar... Nope.

Well, we were desperate. We could go all the way to the King's X or try Billy Crews. The King's X was a sure thing... Billy Crews was not. We decided to go to Billy Crews. We figured we would get some Upper Valley karma if we stayed close to home.

Billy Crews was full. The lounge was packed with people dancing and listening to the one-man band. But, the waitress was so nice. She got out the remote and went hunting. And... she found it.

The second half was underway and Texas was only behind 18 points now... and we were worried.

But, we watched as everyone started to watch us. We would cheer everytime Texas made a basket and even Dick Poe came over and told us that he had heard that Texas was down and that he was glad we showed up to get it on one of the TV's. Of course there were some Texas A & M Aggie fans that were rooting for the Bears... but they didn''t get to cheer to much as Texas nearly doubled the Bears' score in the second half.

Slowly but surely, Texas exerted its will and Kevin Durant took over with some incredible shots.

After the dust had settled. Texas won. Texas was off to take on Oklahoma State which had upset the Texas A & M Aggies that same night. Blessings come in two's.

Thanks. Billy.
