Lady T-Birds and Cougars Fight it Out.
The Coronado Lady T-Birds and the Franklin Lady Cougars went to battle for a little respect. Both teams were out of the playoff picture with Coronado ending the year with an 8 - 7 - 0 District Record and compiling a 17 - 10 - 0 overall recond. Franklin missed the playoffs with a 9 - 9 - 0 District Record and a 23 - 12 - 0 overall record.
Franklin Coach Lauren O'Neill was disappointed that the Lady Cougars were out of the playoffs indicating that if they had "just one more game" to play they would probably have made it. But, that was not going to happen and the Lady Cougars lost a close one to the Lady T-Birds 45-44.
Franklin took to the road during the Christmas Holiday break and played tough with some really good Texas teams. The Lady Cougars won close games against good Wylie (Abilene, TX) 62-59 and Shallowater (TX) 56-51, teams. Franklin got blown out by Coronado (Lubbock, TX)56-71 but came back to win another hard fought battle against Frenship (Wolfforth, TX) 66-62.
That tired the team out acoording to O'Neill and they lost some close games back in town that she feels the team should have won.
The Lady T-Birds had played some slow-down games this year and had had some success with that approach. However, the game was played at a faster tempo and the Lady T-Birds just pulled it out.
