Upper Valley Cycling Takes Turn for the High Road.

When it comes to great cyclying... the Upper Valley rules! Not only do the professionals train in the valley during the winter when they can avoid a lot of dangerous traffic, but, the school age junior ameteurs also ride in packs through the valley followed by their Mom in a SUV to protect them from injury.

But, what is great about the valley for some... is the problem for others. It's flat. And that is what leads some cyclists to head for the hills.

So what do you do after you have ridden from Santa Teresa to Old Mesilla and back too many times. Cyclist Steve Helping likes a bit of variation in his riding and so he rides over Transmountain for the difficulty and also for the change in scenery.

Helping also heads through the valley until he gets to State Road 404 and then he heads east through Anthony Gap. At that point he can reverse his tracks or head down Northeast El Paso and cross Transmountain then back to his home in the Upper Valley.
