Space Port Divides Southern New Mexico Voters.

Area residents in Doņa Ana County will be voting on an increas to their sales tax to fund the building of roads and infrastructure for the proposed Southwest Regional Spaceport complex that is set to begin construction in 2007.

There are many who have become very vocal in voicing their opposition to the "regressive" sales tax increase. The tax increase is proposed to be .25% added to the sales tax on items sold in the area.

Many people feel that this places the unnecessary burden upon the area's poor and elderly residents. Voting is April 3, 2007.
