Artcraft Convenience Entrance Strikes Again.

As we reported in the last issue of the Upper Valley Beacon (January 2007) the addition of the Howdy’s Convenience Gas Station and the new Carl Jr.’s along Artcraft has made for a dangerous cross-traffic area.

The mix of different types of traffic and also drivers from Mexico heading toward Columbus NM or to the San Jeronimo port of entry only make the problem worse. They tend to not understand the laws in Texas and often don’t know that they are going to turn until they hit the brakes.

Residents have complained that west-bound traffic along Artcraft has to come to a screeching halt as drivers just stop in the middle of the road and wait to turn into the restaurant or pull in to fill up their tank. For some reason there is not a turn lane built into the super structure.

On the 14th of February two trucks collided as one tried to pull out of the Carl Jr.’s exit lane pulling a small trailer. The blue late model pick-up may have attempted to cross eastbound traffic to get to the westbound lanes. The truck and the SUV which was heading east collided. There were no serious injuries.
