New Area of Artcraft Now Dangerous.

With the increased traffic that urban sprawl brings to the Upper Valley the traffic dangers pop up where once there were none.

In the past we have documented the increse in serious traffic accidents in both the Upper Valley and also on the roads that are feeders to or through the valley. Initially, the increase in accidents was focused on Upper Valley Road.

Both on Artcraft and also at the corners with Borderland and Country Club.

Drivers are more wary of these injury traps thanks to the Upper Valley Beacon, and so it must be some new area that is going to see the brunt of the traffic problems and poor design by the City of El Paso and TxDot.

The intersection of Artcraft and South Desert (at I-10) is such a location. With the increase of building of businesses that take in a high volume of vehicles; the occurence of traffic mishaps is only waiting to happen.

In the case of this young driver, who was involved in an accident along Artcraft near the entrance to the new Carl's Jr. hamburger shop.

The traffic in this area is irratic. The design is poor as there is not enough flow to the turning lane which gives access to the businesses. Also there are drivers who will shoot acroos from South Desert into the Shell station at the corner and also those who will go west on Artcraft only to engage in a U-turn and try to get into the Shell station.

This area is a bottleneck when trucks from the Santa Teresa area and the shift workers are heading back to El Paso. The turning lane is backed-up for blocks and people trying to get in to the stores are sometimes careless.
