Winter Cold Makes for a Later Spring Show.
While it seemed that our Indian Summer would push autumn into 2007 it appears that the Artic had a different plan for us.
Brutally cold weather has been very chummy since December 1st and the latest blast in early January 2007 makes the ground get really cold and the bulbs that might pop out in February instead will probably want to peek out near March.
Because our weather is so unpredictable it is not recommended to plant bulbs now unless they have been refrigerated already or if their refrigeration or dormant needs are less. If you got a late start, the cold weather may give you an opportunity to get some bulbs in the garden this year.
Give Mike Nash at Nash Gardens (915-587-6000)a call and ask what they recommend for your garden... besure to mention whether you are in the valley or up on the foothills as that will make a big difference.
But in the meantime enjoy this collection of Spring's finest.
