Chile Survives the Floods.
The chile crops were hit hard by the storms of 2006. Hatch, New Mexico north along the Rio Grande was hit perhaps the worst. Severe flooding occurred and much sand and silt was moved onto the fields. Those fields hit the hardest will not recover for years.
Here in the Upper Valley, the chile faired better. The rains were heavy but there was no flooding. Also, the chile is planted on sandy loam soils which drain much better than the heavier clay soils that can be planted in cotton.
