Rio Grande Calms Down for Winter.

The Rio Grande is back inside its banks and the "Lil' Muddy" is just a mere trickle of what it was during the rains of the summer of 2006. August 1st the rains kept on pouring and the storm was saturating the ground all the way up north beyond Elephant Butte Dam.

There was no way for the water to be diverted. Irrigation canals could not take much of the flow as that would have been a preventative measure if it had been allowed to flow full three days earlier.

The only thing to do was to wait and get packed. Many Upper Valley residents were on stand-by.
