First Lady's Visit... Off Limits!!!

Beyond the view in a walled estate in the Upper Valley, First Lady Laura Bush arrived to get down to business. That business being raising money for Dee Margo, a wealthy Republican businessman, who is attempting to win a seat in the Texas Senate which is currently held by incumbent State Senator Eliot Shapleigh (D) El Paso. Bush was the Guest of Honor and besides the heafty entrance fee for the event... Bush was not going to have her picture taken without the person writing a very big check.

Such high-brow visibility may indicate how difficult it will be to remove an incumbent Democrat from this office. As one radio talk show caller said recently, “There are Democrats and then there are the Haggerty’s... and Democrats vote for them too... but, no one else who is a Republican will get elected here in El Paso.

Some have suggested that even though Margo, the ”millionaire businessman” is throwing in tons of his own money which is funding a slew of negative attack ads aimed at smearing the reputation of Senator Shapleigh; it is desperation that prompted the First Lady’s visit.

What Congressman Tom DeLay couldn’t do... the redistricting that he manipulated with illegal funds from convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff... for which he had to resign... the Republican Party is still attempting to gain with an all out attack on Shapleigh.

We spoke to two guests at the function as they left. Dr. Terrance Kline, left early, and did not want to be interviewed nor photographed.

Mr. Henry Taylor, was still a bit woozy after writing a large check to have a picture taken with the First Lady. Taylor was very excited to have met Bush.

The El Paso Police and Secret Service kept all uninvited visitors at a distance from the compound of Paco Jordan. Within an hour, the First Lady was rushed off to the airport.

One question is "Who will pay the heafty cost of a quick trip by the First Lady"? The Bush's, Margo or the U.S. taxpayers?
