New Stadium Inaugurated: Julius & Irene Lowenber Stadium
Former Coach Julius Loweberg and his wife Irene were humbled by the tribute paid to them by the Board of Trustees of CISD and the Canutillo Community. When Coach Lowenberg was coaching Canutillo to Texas 3A football district wins and titles, Canutillo was still the sleepy little town north of El Paso TX.
Lowenberg began his coaching career at St. Patricks Elementary School in El Paso during the 1950's. When he had finished his education at then Texas Western College (Now UTEP), Canutillo was growing and the high school was being finished. Lowenberg took the job and guided the team to many victories... endearing himself and his wife to the residents.
"This is a great honor... this stadium is beatiful" said Lowenberg . When he was coaching Canutillo, there was not even a stadium to play in for several years. Afterwards the new high school on Bosque road was built and the stadium came later. But, that first stadium was nothing like the magnificent stadium of today.
