Anapara, New Mexico is just a stone's throw from Paisano Drive near I-10. It was the hub of the Southern New Mexican growth. This occurred way before Santa Teresa was even a vision in Charlie Crowder's mind. Sunland Park grew along with the racetrack. It was Anapara that was the neighbor of West El Paso and Smeltertown... which has since been demolished due to lead poisoining from the ASARCO smelter.
Youth from the La Casita Community Center in Anapara have been busy this winter and have put on a new coat of paint on the little town. Now, with the help of the City of Sunland Park, Camino Real Landfill and the IWBC... bringing in the diesel... they give the area near the Rio a real deep cleaning. This will make for a beautiful start for pilgrimages climbing to the top of Mt. Cristo Rey.
