Resler Canyon Offically Dedicated.

Under a bright winter sun, Resler Canyon officially became the Wakeem/Teschner Nature Preserve at Resler Canyon. A new era began as Dr. Richard Teschner traded a hand-painted object d'arte for a $1.8 million fortune.

The ribbon-cutting ceremeony made it official. Teschner, a UTEP professor, had saved the 91-acre Resler Canyon “from rim to rim” from the fate of so many other natural open spaces. Teschner and Maria Trunk, President of the Frontera Land Alliance are shown above cutting the ribbon. Surprisingly, there was no recognition of the canyon itself... no blessing, no tossing in flowers, no planting of cacti and no plaque.

Charlie Wakeem, President of the Coronado Neighborhood Association had been fighting the development of Resler Canyon since early 2003.

It was easy to tell it was an election year. The number of candidates running for office swelled the crowd in attendance at the dedication ceremony held at the Coronado Townhouse lawn.
